Delete the SQL Express base or a separate SQL Express instance

This article applies to:

  • Acronis Backup & Recovery 11

Symptoms

  1. You have a Windows Server 2003 with Acronis Backup & Recovery 10/11 Management Server installed;
  2. You delete the product from the system by using the Acronis Backup & Recovery cleanup utility;
  3. Then you install Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Management Server on the same Windows Server 2003 machine;
  4. After the installation, the Acronis Management Server Service fails to start with the following error in the Windows Event Logs:

    Failure Audit
    Login failed for user 'NAME'

Cause

This is a sporadic issue specific only to the described scenario on Windows Server 2003 machines.

Solution

(!) This has been fixed in the latest build.

As a workaround, you can also do the following:

  1. On the machine with the Acronis Management Server and SQL Server installed, start SQL Server Configuration Manager;
  2. Select SQL Server Network Configuration -> Protocols for Acronis;
  3. Make sure the TCP/IP protocol is enabled;
  4. Restart SQL Server services (Start-Run -> services.msc -> right-click on SQL Server (ACRONIS) and select Restart);
  5. Download the ams_script fix and extract it to the ams_script folder on the machine where the Acronis Management Server and SQL Server is installed;
    • If you installed the product with the default SQL instance name (ACRONIS) and the default user name (AMS User), then simply run the replace_old_ams_user.bat file. This will fix the issue.
    • If you installed the product with a custom SQL instance name and/or Customer user name, then execute the script from the command prompt:

      replace_old_ams_user.bat INSTANCE_NAME USER_NAME

      where

      INSTANCE_NAME is the name of the Acronis SQL Instance. If there is a space in the instance name, put it in double quotes (e.g. "Instance Name");
      USER_NAME is the name of the user under which the Acronis Management Server has been installed. If there is a space in the user name, put it in double quotes (e.g. "User Name").

      (!) The script has to be executed from the ams_script folder.

The utility removes Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 and its components from Windows

This article applies to:

Description

Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Cleanup Utility is a console application that removes Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 and its components from Windows.

(!) Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Cleanup Utility should be used only in case the product fails to be uninstalled the usual way from Windows Control Panel.

The utility is written using plain commands of command line interpreter (cmd.exe) included in Windows 2000 and higher.

As a precautionary measure, prior to using the Cleanup Utility, we highly recommend that necessary backup measures be taken to preserve Customer data. This can be done using Acronis software or third party software and/or hardware.

The utility removes all Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Windows components locally from the machine. It does not perform remote uninstallation.

Supported operating systems

  • Windows XP Professional SP2+ (x86, x64)
  • Windows 2000 SP4 – all editions except for the Datacenter edition
  • Windows Server 2003/2003 R2 - the Standard, Enterprise, Small Business Server editions (x86, x64)
  • Windows Vista - all editions except for Vista Home Basic and Vista Home Premium (x86, x64)
  • Windows 7 - all editions except for the Starter and Home editions (x86, x64)
  • Windows Server 2008 - the Standard, Enterprise, Small Business Server editions (x86, x64)
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 - the Standard, Enterprise, Datacenter, Foundation editions
  • Windows MultiPoint Server 2010
  • Windows Small Business Server 2011

Supported languages

  • All

Installation

The utility does not require installation.

Usage

(!) If there are other Acronis products installed on the machine, they will be affected too and become non-functional.

(!) Running the utility may close all Windows Explorer windows.

(!) The utility removes SQL databases used by Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Management Server.

(!) By default, the utility removes Acronis Secure Zone and leaves the space unallocated. You can then use Windows Disk Management to put the leftover space back to a partition. There is a special parameter to keep Acronis Secure Zone intact - see below.

  1. Download Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Cleanup Utility and unpack it;
  2. Hit Start -> Run, and type in cmd. Browse to the folder you saved the utility to;
  3. Run the utility by issuing one of the following commands:

    • To run the utility with default parameters:

      abr_cleanup_h.exe --clean

      When run with --clean parameter, it will ask you to confirm if you want to remove the product and its components. It will also ask you to reboot the machine if necessary.

    • To run the utility without user interaction:

      abr_cleanup_h.exe --clean --quiet

      When run with --clean --quiet parameters, the utility will silently remove the product and its components. It will not ask you for any confirmation and will reboot the machine if necessary.

    • To run the utility keeping Acronis Secure Zone on the system:

      abr_cleanup._h.exe --clean --keep-asz

    • To run the utility keeping Acronis SnapAPI Drivers on the system:

      abr_cleanup_h.exe --clean --keep-snapapi

  4. After issuing the command with the necessary parameter(s), the utility will remove all components of the product that it detects on the machine.

(!) After using the Cleanup Utility, it is strongly recommended not to reboot the machine. Go to Start -> Run -> regedit, and verify that there are no snapman*, tdrpman*, fltsrv,timounter strings in the UpperFilters and LowerFilters of the following keys:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}

If there are any, please remove the strings from the UpperFilters and LowerFilters of the keys mentioned above.

(!) Do not delete the keys.

Then you may reboot the machine.

  3. The activity task fails due to not being able to open archive of a different machine (not of the machine that is currently being backed up);
  4. Refresh on the corresponding vault resolves the issue only temporaly. After some time the issue is reproduced again.

Cause

There are numerous broken (non-existing) links to .TIB files in the meta data on the vault because of manual archive deletions, incorrect backup plan deployments or other factors.

This meta corruption can be only temporarily fixed by manually refreshing the vault location.

Solution

Please contact Acronis Customer Central to receive a hotfix and install it on all (!) agents which are being backed up to the corresponding vault with the corrupt meta (other way the meta will be getting corrupt per backup with old agents).

Installation

Das Tool benötigt keine Installation.

Verwendung

  2. Gehen Sie auf Start und geben in das Eingabefeld Ausführen bzw. Suchen den Befehl cmd ein. Wechseln Sie mit dem Befehl cd in den Zielordner;

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}

(!) Löschen Sie bitte die Schlüssel nicht!

Dann können Sie den Computer neustarten.

Acronis vmProtect 8: Backup Cleanup Options

You can set up backup cleanup rules that are used to manage backups created by Acronis vmProtect

This article applies to:

  • Acronis vmProtect 8

Description

There are backup cleanup rules available in Acronis vmProtect that can be set while creating a backup task via Acronis vmProtect web console.

Setting up backup cleanup rules:

  1. Not Specified: If the retention rules are not specified, then no programmed backups management will be performed, i.e. all the backups will be stored inside the archive indefinitely.
  2. Simple Cleanup Scheme: The selection of the simple cleanup scheme allows you to keep the backups for a certain time period or keep a certain number of backups inside the archive. There are two options available.
    -> Delete the backups and the archives if:
    • Backups are older than x number of days. X is the number of days for which you want to keep the backups and the archives. Cleanup will remove the backups that are older than x days.
    • Number of backups in the archive exceeds x. Here X is the number of backups that you want to keep in an archive.

      Example:

      The second option allows you to clean up the archive if the number of backups exceeds <…>. Again, if you set this number to 1, then for the Always Incremental archive mode there will be a synthetic full backup created, i.e. an incremental backup which will remove the unnecessary old recovery point contents after the backup is finished.

  3. GFS Cleanup Scheme: GFS or "Grandfather-Father-Son” cleanup scheme allows you to keep a certain number of daily, weekly and monthly backups. Indicate how many daily, weekly and monthly backups you need to keep. All backups made within one day are considered to be the "daily" ones and will be all deleted when the date expires. The same rule applies to “weekly” and "monthly" backups.
    1. Monthly and Weekly backups will be created on the day selected for starting the backup task for first time.
    2. Daily backup sets will be created on all other days.
    3. Let’s say Sunday is defined as the day for starting the backup.
      • Monthly backup will be created on Sunday when we run the task for the first time.
      • Weekly backup will be created on every other Sunday for the current/same month.
      • Daily backup will be created on days other than Sunday.
      • Monthly backup will be again created on the first Sunday of the next month and every other Sunday will again give us weekly backups.
    4. Another example is shown in the below image with following settings:
      • Backup task set to start the first time on Monday.
      • It is supposed to run x times a day depending on the schedule that you have setup.
      • GFS cleanup scheme set as shown in figure (keep backups: Daily- 5, Weekly- 1 and Monthly- 1):

      • On the first Monday x backups will be created -> These will be considered as the first monthly backup.
      • On Tuesday x backups will be created -> These will be considered as first daily backup.
      • Similarly on Wednesday, Thursday.... until Sunday x backups will be created everyday -> These will be considered as one daily backup for each day.
      • Cleanup will first occur on Saturday that will be 6th day for weekly backup, before the backup is created. This will delete the first daily backup that was created on Monday. The process will be repeated whenever we have 5 daily backups created and the 6th daily backup is about to be created.
      • On every other Monday for the current month x backups will be created -> These x  backups will be considered as weekly backups.
      • On the second, third... last Monday of month -> Backup task will check for the existing weekly backup before creating the weekly backup. If the weekly backup is already there then it will be deleted before a new weekly backup is created. This will ensure that only one weekly backup exists, as per this example task.
      • On the first Monday of the next month a new monthly backup will be created. However, before creating this monthly backup it will run cleanup to delete the monthly backup that was created the last month. Hence, we will have only 1 monthly backup for every month.

Delete the SQL Express base or a separate SQL Express instance

This article applies to:

  • Acronis Backup & Recovery 11

Symptoms

  1. You have a Windows Server 2003 with Acronis Backup & Recovery 10/11 Management Server installed;
  2. You delete the product from the system by using the Acronis Backup & Recovery cleanup utility;
  3. Then you install Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Management Server on the same Windows Server 2003 machine;

  1. On the machine with the Acronis Management Server and SQL Server installed, start SQL Server Configuration Manager;
  2. Select SQL Server Network Configuration -> Protocols for Acronis;
  3. Make sure the TCP/IP protocol is enabled;
  4. Restart SQL Server services (Start-Run -> services.msc -> right-click on SQL Server (ACRONIS) and select Restart);
  5. Download the ams_script fix and extract it to the ams_script folder on the machine where the Acronis Management Server and SQL Server is installed;
    • If you installed the product with the default SQL instance name (ACRONIS) and the default user name (AMS User), then simply run the replace_old_ams_user.bat file. This will fix the issue.
    • If you installed the product with a custom SQL instance name and/or Customer user name, then execute the script from the command prompt:

      replace_old_ams_user.bat INSTANCE_NAME USER_NAME

      where

      INSTANCE_NAME is the name of the Acronis SQL Instance. If there is a space in the instance name, put it in double quotes (e.g. "Instance Name");

Description

Cleanup Utility is a console application that removes Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 and Acronis Backup 11.5 and its components from Windows.

(!) Cleanup Utility should be used only in case the product fails to be uninstalled the usual way from Windows Control Panel.

As a precautionary measure, prior to using the Cleanup Utility, we highly recommend that necessary backup measures be taken to preserve Customer data. This can be done using Acronis software or third party software and/or hardware.

The utility removes all Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 and Acronis Backup 11.5 Windows components locally from the machine. It does not perform remote uninstallation.

Usage

(!) If there are other Acronis products installed on the machine, they will be affected too and become non-functional.

(!) Running the utility may close all Windows Explorer windows.

(!) The utility removes SQL databases used by Acronis Management Server.

(!) By default, the utility removes Acronis Secure Zone and leaves the space unallocated. You can then use Windows Disk Management to put the leftover space back to a partition. There is a special parameter to keep Acronis Secure Zone intact - see below.

  1. Download Cleanup Utility and unpack it;
  2. Hit Start -> Run, and type in cmd. Browse to the folder you saved the utility to;

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}

If there are any, please remove the strings from the UpperFilters and LowerFilters of the keys mentioned above.

(!) Do not delete the keys.

Then you may reboot the machine.

  3. The activity task fails due to not being able to open archive of a different machine (not of the machine that is currently being backed up);

Das Tool entfernt alle Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 und Acronis Backup 11.5 Komponenten vom Windows System

Dieser Artikel betrifft:

Beschreibung

Das Bereinigungstool ist eine Konsolenanwendung, die alle Komponenten von Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 und Acronis Backup 11.5 vom Windows System entfernt.

  2. Gehen Sie auf Start und geben in das Eingabefeld Ausführen bzw. Suchen den Befehl cmd ein. Wechseln Sie mit dem Befehl cd in den Zielordner;

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}
